Afro-Asian
Book Council
Objectives:
Set up in New Delhi in February 1990 as a non-profit NGO with the main
objective of achieving intellectual self-reliance through mutual assistance and
cooperation between Africa and Asia in authorship and publishing.
Activities: Book
exhibitions and author development workshops at national and international
levels, book industry training programmes, seminars, consultations and annual
conferences on book-related themes in Asia and Africa, facilitating flow of
books and Rights with a view to promoting indigenous authorship and publishing.
Membership:
On March 31, 2006 the Council had 170 members on its roll in 25
Afro-Asian countries, viz.
IN AFRICA
Cameroon,
Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
IN
ASIA-PACIFIC
Afghanistan,
Bangladesh, Bhutan, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Japan, Malaysia,
Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Philippines and UAE.
IN EUROPE
AND AMERICA
Outside
the Afro-Asian region the Council has Associate Members in Canada, Germany, The
Netherlands, Russia, UK and USA.
